In 2024, Outline once again became a magnet for those seeking more than just music or art. Over four days, the festival brought together more than 10,000 visitors from Russia and neighboring CIS countries. As co-organizers of the festival and curators of the multimedia program, we developed several original works for Outline 2024. These included the main stage design with the experimental audiovisual installation Deus Ex Machina in collaboration with the artist collective Panterra, the Portal installation in partnership with Recycle Group — a piece merging sculpture and multimedia — and an updated version of last year’s hit, Light Bath.

The Outline 2024 artistic program features 47 art installations and multimedia projects from leading international studios and independent multimedia artists and collectives whose works were selected through an annual open call. Our studio helped 6 multimedia artists to make their artwork into reality on the festival.

Deus Ex Machina on the Main Stage
In collaboration with Panterra, we created the large-scale audiovisual installation Deus Ex Machina, seamlessly blending into the festival’s abandoned concrete surroundings. The installation resembled a living supercomputer, interwoven with broken screens and roots stretching into the structure. Exploring the potential prohibition of AI technologies, the piece visualized deconstruction through hanging wires and shattered screens. Festival Goers could interact with the installation through the AI FACES video booth, where real-time video avatars were generated and projected on the stage screens.

Portal Installation with Recycle Group
Portal is a unique blend of sculpture and multimedia, presenting both the mesmerizing and haunting aspects of life in a cybernetic world. Through projections and controlled lighting, the sculpture came alive, immersing viewers in a realm where technology becomes part of daily life. The sculptural foundation, crafted in Recycle Group’s signature style, featured a multi-figure relief made from plastic mesh, displayed for the first time in three forms: high relief, bas-relief, and counter-relief.

Light Bath
First introduced at the 2023 festival, Light Bath returned in 2024 with enhanced mapping and a new sound design. The installations’ concept aims to recreate the sensory experience of a float tank, embodying an audiovisual synesthesia effect. Enclosed in a capsule isolated from the outside world, festival attendees could lie on a mesh, surrounded by spatial sound and its light-based interpretation, through a dome projection. The experience symbolized a return to the womb, followed by a rebirth.
