The multimedia exhibition The Legend of the Titanic marks our third collaboration with MAD (Madrid Artes Digitales). This project wasn’t about remaking the iconic movie but reimagining the familiar story as a captivating immersive experience. Using cutting-edge technologies in a 360-degree projection hall and a VR room, we bring the events of Titanic to life in a way that continues to intrigue audiences. Imagine stepping into a world you thought you'd never be able to visit.

The narrative centers on a father and daughter traveling as third-class passengers. Their journey, from the lower decks to the upper levels during the ship’s sinking, drives emotional engagement while showcasing the ship’s interiors and exteriors. Their story serves as a lens through which audiences connect with the human aspect of the tragedy, making the experience deeply personal.

Character animation plays a vital role in the show. The father, daughter, and over 300 additional characters — from dockside passengers to ballroom dancers — bring the Titanic to life. The stylized, comic-book-inspired animation of the main characters contrasts with the immersive realism of the environment, creating a compelling balance between emotional storytelling and technical precision. This stylistic choice highlights the personal drama of the protagonists while integrating seamlessly into the broader narrative.

Designed for audiences of all ages, the sinking of the Titanic is depicted with emotional depth and subtlety. Dramatic tilts, visual metaphors, and carefully crafted soundscapes convey the gravity of the event, immersing spectators in the scale and tension of the tragedy. Key moments, including the collision, sinking, and rescue, are brought to life with a focus on realism and emotional engagement. These scenes are best experienced in the immersive environment of the show, where the scale, sound, and visuals come together to create an unforgettable journey.
The VR segment of The Legend of the Titanic offers a groundbreaking experience, bringing the story’s emotional core to life. One standout moment recreates the musicians who continued to perform as the ship went down. Filmed against a green screen and integrated into a virtual scene, the musicians are presented with striking realism, creating an intimate connection with the audience. This 6-minute VR experience immerses spectators in the Titanic’s final moments, making them feel as if they are standing on the deck, surrounded by music that echoes through history.

Another standout feature is the music. The show’s original symphonic score, recorded by a full orchestra under the direction of René Merkelbach, heightens the emotional atmosphere. Each scene is matched with music that complements its tone, while carefully crafted ambient sounds and special effects immerse viewers further in the story.

This project represents a seamless team effort, where ideas, visual solutions, and technologies came together. Work on The Legend of the Titanic spanned 11 months, involving a team of 27 people from our side alone. The final product includes 32 scenes for the 24-minute show and a 6-minute VR experience. This exhibition reimagines the Titanic’s story through immersive technology and innovative storytelling, offering a perspective distinct from any film adaptation.
